A cozy dessert of tender apples topped with a crunchy, buttery mixture, perfect for chilly evenings.
Ingredients
- 6 golden delicious apples (peeled and chopped)
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of kosher salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (diced into small cubes)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the chopped apples with granulated sugar, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
- Transfer the spiced apples into a greased baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix together the light brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of kosher salt.
- Add the cold, diced butter to the dry mixture, and blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the spiced apples.
- Bake for about 35-40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly and tender.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of cream.
Notes
Try mixing different apple varieties for a more complex flavor; don’t skip the lemon juice for brightness!
