Description

A cozy dessert of tender apples topped with a crunchy, buttery mixture, perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

  • 6 golden delicious apples (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (diced into small cubes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the chopped apples with granulated sugar, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the spiced apples into a greased baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, mix together the light brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of kosher salt.
  5. Add the cold, diced butter to the dry mixture, and blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the spiced apples.
  7. Bake for about 35-40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly and tender.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of cream.

Notes

Try mixing different apple varieties for a more complex flavor; don’t skip the lemon juice for brightness!
