Description

Make your holiday extra special with this easy Christmas Crack Pretzels recipe! Featuring crunchy pretzels, buttery toffee, and rich chocolate, this sweet and salty treat is perfect for gifting or indulging. Print the recipe for quick reference anytime you need a festive snack!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups mini pretzel snaps (or small pretzel twists)

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • Optional toppings:

    • Crushed candy canes

    • Holiday-themed sprinkles

    • Chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, etc.)

    • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

1. Prep Your Baking Sheet:

Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Arrange the pretzels in a single, even layer to fully cover the bottom.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. Make the Toffee Layer:

In a medium saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.

Let it boil for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes thick and glossy.

3. Pour and Spread the Toffee:

Carefully pour the hot toffee over the pretzels, spreading it evenly with a spatula to cover all the pretzels. Work quickly as the toffee sets fast.

4. Bake the Base:

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes. The toffee should bubble and settle into the pretzels.

5. Add the Chocolate Layer:

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee.

Let the chocolate sit for 2-3 minutes to soften, then spread it evenly with a spatula.

6. Decorate:

While the chocolate is still warm, sprinkle your chosen toppings (candy canes, sprinkles, nuts, etc.) over the top.

7. Chill and Break:

Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator or freezer to cool completely for 2 hours.

Once hardened, break the treat into bite-sized pieces by hand or using a sharp knife.

Notes

Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months (layered with wax paper).

Custom Variations: Substitute pretzels with saltine crackers or graham crackers for different textures and flavors.

Make It Your Own: Mix and match toppings to suit your holiday theme or personal taste.
